Academy Attendance

We aim that all our children get a full-time education and we ask for the support of parents to ensure that their child regularly and punctually attends the Academy, is properly dressed, and in a fit condition to learn.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

Full attendance at school gives every child their very best chance of success throughout their life. There will obviously be occasions when your child will need to be absent from school due to illness or medical appointments.

If your child is ill, please ensure you notify the academy office by telephone before 9.00am on the first day of your child’s absence or complete the on-line form. On their return, a written explanation note should be handed in to their teacher. Please note that in cases of sickness or diarrhoea, your child should remain off school for 48 hours after the last occurrence of sickness or diarrhoea.

Non-emergency appointments such as opticians and dentist should preferably be made out of school hours. If your child needs to be removed from school for an emergency appointment or a hospital appointment, then please notify the school as soon as possible. You will be required to provide medical evidence such as an appointment letter or appointment card for the absence to be classed as ‘authorised’.

In September 2013, Government legislation regarding holidays during school term time changed. Schools and academies are no longer permitted to authorise absence for holidays during school term-time unless it is due to exceptional circumstances. Approval for any predetermined absence from school should be applied for in advance. Absence request forms are available from the Academy office.

The Academy has the right to issue penalty notices to parents and carers as a deterrent to prevent a pattern of unauthorised absences developing.  This includes persistent late arrival after the close of registration or unauthorised absence (an absence that has not been authorised as an absence from school for exceptional circumstances).  In these cases the warning is given on the absence request form.
